Node.js hosting

Node.js hosting on a server of your own

A managed cloud server of your own — the whole machine, with root, built to your choice of stack profile and size. You install and run Node.js exactly as you want it; we handle the provisioning, the network and the backups.

What Node.js is

Node.js is a runtime that executes JavaScript outside a browser, on a server. It is what lets a team write both halves of an application in one language, and its event-driven design means a single process can hold a very large number of open connections at once rather than dedicating a thread to each one.

Why teams build on Node.js

Node.js is the natural home for anything that talks constantly rather than occasionally — APIs, real-time features, chat, dashboards that update themselves, and the server side of a React, Next.js, Vue or Angular application. It also has, in npm, by far the largest package ecosystem of any runtime, so most of what you need already exists and is maintained.

What you get with the server

  • The whole machine, with root access — not a share of one. A Node process that needs to hold thousands of connections open, or to use the memory you paid for, is not competing with anybody else's site for it.
  • You choose the stack profile when the server is built, Node.js among them, and it is recorded against the machine — so the server you ordered is the server you get.
  • Backups are included and taken automatically, with the option to keep a month of the file system and two of the databases, so a bad deploy is something you roll back rather than something you rebuild.
  • You choose the data centre, and the range runs in eight of them across North America, Europe and Asia — so the server sits near the users or the database it talks to most.

Plans and pricing

Ten sizes, from a single core up to forty-eight. Every one is a whole machine — the resources on the card are yours, not a share of somebody else's.

Where your own server can be built

A managed cloud server can be built in any of these regions. Choose the one closest to the people you serve, or the one your data needs to stay in.

  • Dallas, United States
  • Los Angeles, United States
  • Miami, United States
  • Washington DC, United States
  • London, United Kingdom
  • Frankfurt, Germany
  • Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • Singapore

Powered by 100% renewable energy

Every server we run, on every product, is powered by renewable electricity. Not offset after the fact — sourced that way.

  • 100% renewable electricity across all our hosting
  • Data centres running at a PUE of 1.1 to 1.2
  • Sites on our shared platform pass the Green Web Foundation's checks — a third party you can verify for yourself

Questions people ask before they buy

Do I get root access?

Yes. It is your machine — you have root over the whole thing, so you install what you like, run whatever process manager you prefer, and are never waiting on us to enable something.

Is Node.js already installed when the server arrives?

No, and we would rather say so. You get a clean managed machine with root, and you install the runtime the way your application needs it — the version, the process manager, the reverse proxy. We deliberately do not claim a pre-tuned stack: we checked what a newly built server actually contains, and promising otherwise would be a claim you could disprove in your first SSH session.

Where can the server be?

Eight data centres: Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami and Washington DC in North America; London, Frankfurt and Amsterdam in Europe; and Singapore in Asia. You pick the city when you build the server.

Can I resize it later?

Yes. Sizes run from one core and 1 GB of memory up to forty-eight cores and 128 GB, and you move between them as the application grows rather than rebuilding on a bigger box.

Is it managed, or am I on my own?

The machine, the network, the provisioning and the backups are ours. What runs on top of it is yours — which is the arrangement most teams building an application actually want, because the deploy is the part they do not want anybody else touching.

Can I pay yearly?

Yes. Every size is sold monthly or yearly, and the yearly price is the cheaper of the two. You can start monthly and switch.
