Zinn® Backups

WordPress backups that live in your own storage, not on your server

Zinn® Backups sends your files and database to your own Cloudflare R2, S3, Dropbox or Google Drive in small resumable steps, restores them without risking a half-replaced database, and imports sites from other backup plugins.

Built for speed and SEO

Page speed affects where Google ranks a page and how many visitors stay on it. So instead of telling you Zinn® Backups is light, we installed it on a clean WordPress test site and measured what it adds to a page.

  • 0 kBadded to the page: everything a visitor's browser downloads
  • 0requests to other companies' servers
  • 100 → 100Lighthouse performance score on phones, without the plugin → with it
  • 91 → 91Lighthouse SEO score, without the plugin → with it

Measured on 2026-10-01: Zinn Backups 1.0.0 on a clean WordPress test site, using Lighthouse's test for phones, run 5 times and taking the middle result. Page weight counts everything a visitor's browser downloads within 15 seconds, including after a scroll. Every result, and how we measured it

Why people choose Zinn® Backups

Nothing left on the server

Each part is uploaded and deleted before the next is made, so backups never use your hosting's disk and survive if the server is lost.

Restores that cannot half-fail

The database goes into temporary tables and is swapped in with one atomic step at the end; a failed restore changes nothing.

Bring sites in from other plugins

Import UpdraftPlus, All-in-One WP Migration, Duplicator, BackWPup and other archives, with the address changed for you.

What Zinn® Backups does

Zinn® Backups copies your whole site — every file in wp-content and the complete database — to storage you own: Cloudflare R2, Amazon S3 or any S3-compatible bucket, Dropbox, or Google Drive. Nothing is kept on your web server: each part of a backup is uploaded and deleted before the next part is made, so a backup never eats the disk space your hosting gives you, and it survives if the server is lost. When you need it back, a restore loads the database into temporary tables first and swaps them in with one step at the very end, so a restore that fails half way leaves your site exactly as it was. It also brings sites in from other plugins: UpdraftPlus, All-in-One WP Migration, Duplicator, BackWPup, WPvivid, Jetpack VaultPress Backup and BlogVault backups import into wp-content with the site address changed for you.

Why it matters

It is built for ordinary shared hosting, where long requests are cut off at thirty seconds and there is no shell, no mysqldump and no exec. Every backup and restore runs in short steps that pick up where they stopped, the database is read and written through WordPress itself, and uploads go in 8 MB chunks that resume after a network hiccup. Every file is checked against its SHA-256 checksum before it is restored. Address changes are made by reading serialized data as text, so plugin settings stay valid and nothing from an imported archive is ever unserialized into live PHP objects.

What is in it

Everything Zinn® Backups does, listed from the plugin itself, so this page changes when the plugin does.

Backing up

  • Your own storageCloudflare R2, Amazon S3, Wasabi, Backblaze B2, DigitalOcean Spaces and other S3-compatible buckets, Dropbox, or Google Drive.
  • Nothing kept on the serverEach part is uploaded and removed before the next one is built, so the server never holds the whole backup.
  • Short, resumable stepsWorks within a thirty-second time limit, without shell access or mysqldump, and carries on after a network hiccup.

Restoring

  • An atomic database swapThe backup's tables are loaded under a temporary name and switched in with one RENAME; your settings for the plugin are kept.
  • Checked before it is restoredEvery part is verified against its SHA-256 checksum after downloading, so a damaged copy is refused instead of restored.

Importing and moving

  • Imports from other pluginsUpdraftPlus, All-in-One WP Migration (.wpress), Duplicator, BackWPup, WPvivid, Jetpack VaultPress Backup, BlogVault and Zinn® Migrate archives.
  • Moves the site address for youOld addresses and folders are replaced everywhere, including inside serialized plugin settings, which stay valid.

What Zinn® Backups needs

WordPress 6.6 or later and PHP 8.2 or later with the ZipArchive and Sodium extensions, which almost every host has. Your own storage: a Cloudflare R2, Amazon S3 or S3-compatible bucket with an access key, or a Dropbox app key, or a Google Cloud OAuth client — the steps are on the plugin's Storage tab. No Zinn Digital® account is needed.

How you get Zinn® Backups

Install and activate the plugin, open Zinn® Backups → Storage, connect your storage and press Test. Then open Backups and press Back up now. To bring in a site from another plugin, open Import & migrate and upload its backup files, paste a share link, or put the files in wp-content/uploads/zinn-backups-import/.

Questions about Zinn® Backups

Does the backup stay on my web server?

No. Each part is uploaded to your storage and deleted from the server before the next part is made; only a small file list and the job's progress are kept between steps, in a private folder visitors cannot open.

Do I need a Zinn Digital® account?

No. The plugin talks only to the storage you connect. Sites hosted with Zinn Digital® also get daily backups from us; this plugin is for keeping your own extra copy, and for sites hosted anywhere.

Which backups from other plugins can it import?

UpdraftPlus (every file of a backup set), All-in-One WP Migration .wpress files without encryption, Duplicator zip packages, BackWPup, WPvivid, Jetpack VaultPress Backup and BlogVault downloads, Zinn® Migrate packages, and any zip or tar of a WordPress site with its .sql dump.

What happens to files that are not in the backup?

They are kept. A restore writes the backup's files over the site's and never deletes anything; wp-config.php is never replaced.

Updates

On a site we host, these plugins are configured to update themselves: they check with us and WordPress installs the new version for you, with the download verified against its published checksum first. On a WordPress we do not host, there is nothing to configure and nothing phones home — come back to this page when you want the newest version, or watch the plugin's GitHub releases.

Need an older version?

Customers can download the newest release of each of the two previous major versions of every plugin in the Zinn Digital® app. It is there for a site that cannot run the current version yet — one still on an older WordPress or PHP — and for rolling back an update that caused a problem. When you can, install the current version.
