.NET hosting — managed for you, or a server of your own

Two ways to run .NET, on one platform. Take a managed plan and the application is installed on a platform that already runs it. Or take a whole cloud server with root access, built to the .NET Core profile, and choose the runtime, the reverse proxy and the service manager yourself.

Two ways to run .NET Core: a managed package on our shared platform, or a cloud server of your own

What .NET is

.NET is Microsoft's application platform, and the modern cross-platform version of it runs on Linux as a first-class target rather than as a port. C# applications — web APIs, server-rendered sites with ASP.NET, background services — are compiled and run on the same machine you would use for any other stack.

Why teams build on .NET

.NET is the natural choice for teams whose people already write C#, and for applications where a compiled, statically typed language earns its keep: line-of-business systems, financial and logistics software, and APIs under sustained load. It is also the practical route for moving an older Windows-hosted application onto Linux without rewriting it in another language.

What you get, on both

  • On a managed plan, the application is installed and the platform runs it for you — no runtime to choose, no service to configure, and the whole feature set below is included.
  • On a cloud server, the machine is yours with root access and is built to the .NET Core stack profile. A long-running .NET process holds its own memory and its own thread pool, which is precisely the shape of workload that shared hosting handles worst and a dedicated machine handles best.
  • Backups are included and taken automatically on both, with the option to keep a month of the file system and two of the databases — so a bad deploy is something you roll back rather than something you rebuild.
  • You choose where it runs. The managed platform is live in London, Dallas and Singapore; the cloud range runs in eight cities across North America, Europe and Asia. Both are listed further down the page.

Plans and pricing

Two rungs of one product. A managed plan is the quickest way to have the application running; a cloud server is the same application on a machine you control, down to the runtime version. Monthly or yearly, and yearly is two months free.

  • Try it firstEvery managed plan starts with a free trial of 14 days, so you can put a real site on it before you pay for anything.
  • 30-day money-back guaranteeIf a managed plan is not right for you, tell us within 30 days of your first payment and we refund it. Application hosting is covered. Read the refund policy
  • Real support, includedSupport is included on every plan, from people who run this platform rather than a script. Accounts that cannot wait can go to the front of the queue. How priority support works

Plans from $12.99 a month

A managed cloud machine, yours alone, built to the .NET Core optimisation profile and handed over with root access. You choose the stack and install .NET Core yourself. Pick this when you need control the shared platform does not give you.

Powered by 100% renewable energy

Every server we run, on every product, is powered by renewable electricity. Not offset after the fact — sourced that way.

  • 100% renewable electricity across all our hosting
  • Data centres running at a PUE of 1.1 to 1.2
  • Sites on our shared platform pass the Green Web Foundation's checks — a third party you can verify for yourself

Questions people ask before they buy

Do I get root access?

On a cloud server, yes — it is your machine and you have root over the whole thing. On a managed plan you get SSH, Git and cron rather than root, because the server is shared and we keep it patched. If you need to choose the runtime version yourself, the cloud range is the rung to take.

Is the .NET runtime already there?

On a managed plan, yes — the account is provisioned with the application on a platform that runs it. On a cloud server, no, and we would rather say so: you get a clean machine with root, built to the .NET Core profile, and you install the runtime or SDK your application targets. Choosing a profile records what the machine is for; it does not install software, and a .NET application is built against a specific version where the wrong choice is worse than none.

Where will it be hosted?

A managed plan runs in one of three data centres: London, Dallas or Singapore. A cloud server can be built in eight: Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami and Washington DC in North America; London, Frankfurt and Amsterdam in Europe; and Singapore in Asia. You pick the city when you order.

Can I move up later?

Yes, in both directions. Managed plans step up as the application grows, and cloud sizes run from one core and 1 GB of memory to forty-eight cores and 128 GB. Moving from a managed plan to a server of your own is a migration we do for you.

Is it managed, or am I on my own?

That is the choice the two rungs represent. On a managed plan we run the server and the platform — updates, caching, SSL, malware scanning and backups are ours. On a cloud server the machine, the network and the backups are ours and the runtime and the application are yours, which is what a team deploying a compiled application generally wants.

Can I pay yearly?

Yes, on both. Every managed plan and every server size is sold monthly or yearly, and the yearly price is the cheaper of the two — two months free. You can start monthly and switch later.
