Common questions
What is WHOIS, and what is RDAP?
WHOIS is the public record of who registered a domain and when it expires. RDAP is the modern replacement for it — the same information, served by the registries themselves in a structured form. This tool reads RDAP, so what you see comes from the authoritative source rather than from a copy.
Why can I not see the owner's name and email?
Since GDPR, most registries redact the registrant, administrative and technical contacts from the public record. Where a registry does still publish them we deliberately do not repeat them here. To reach a domain's owner, use the registrar's own contact form — the registrar is shown above.
It says the registry did not answer. Is the domain free?
No — that answer means we could not find out, which is a different thing. Some extensions publish no lookup service at all, and a registry can be slow or busy. Only 'not registered' means the registry has told us there is no such registration.
Can I look up a domain that is not registered with you?
Yes. Every domain on the internet, at any registrar, in any country. The record is public and this tool does not care where the name lives. If you would like it to live with us, the search page will tell you what a transfer costs.
