What happens when malware is found
You do not have to be watching. The platform finds it, repairs it and tells you, on every type of site.
Infected files are cleaned
When a scan finds malware, the malicious code is removed from the file in place, and the original is kept so the clean can be undone.
The rest goes into quarantine
A file that cannot be cleaned is moved out of your site into a quarantine folder in your account. It is kept, never deleted.
We email you
You get an email saying we cleaned malware off the site, linking to exactly which files were cleaned or quarantined.
One-click restore that stays restored
Every cleaned or quarantined file has Restore next to it in the site's clean history. A restored file is left alone from then on, and is only cleaned again if its content changes.
Clean now, whenever you like
An infected site shows Clean now on its security card, so you can run a clean yourself at any time, and every clean is kept in the site's history.
Careful by design
Automatic does not mean reckless. These are the rules the clean follows.
- Files a site cannot open without, such as wp-config.php, index.php, index.html and .htaccess, are never moved aside automatically, because that would take the site down.
- If malware is left after a clean, the clean has failed: you are warned and given time to fix it. A site is only suspended when a clean fails.
- Staff-run hack repair is there to buy for what an automatic clean cannot fix.
- Auto-repair runs on our servers, so it covers every hosting plan. It does not run inside cloud or compute servers, which you manage yourself.
FAQ
Is malware auto-repair included, or is it an add-on?
It is included on every hosting plan, for every site on our servers. Daily scanning, the automatic clean, quarantine, the email, the clean history and one-click restore cost nothing extra. Staff-run hack repair, for what an automatic clean cannot fix, is the paid extra.
Do I have to switch it on?
No. A site joins the daily scan rotation as soon as it is live, and auto-repair runs whenever a scan finds malware.
What if it cleans a file I need?
Open the site's clean history and press Restore next to the file. The original goes back, the site is re-scanned, and that file is left alone from then on unless its content changes.
Will auto-repair ever take my site offline?
It never moves aside a file the site cannot open without, such as wp-config.php or the home page. If malware is left after a clean you are warned and given time to fix it; a site is only suspended when a clean fails.
Does it work on footprint-free (PBN) hosting?
Yes. Auto-repair runs for every site on our servers, so footprint-free sites are scanned and repaired the same way as every other hosting plan.
Does it cover cloud and compute servers?
No. Cloud and compute servers are machines you manage yourself, so our scanner does not run inside them. Auto-repair covers every hosting plan.
