Paying late: what your payment covers

Why your sites can still be paused after you pay, what each payment covers, how to see what is still owed, and how to pay everything in one go.

A late payment pays for the oldest unpaid period first

Each payment pays for the oldest billing period that is still unpaid — never for the days after the payment. So if your monthly plan was paid until 22 August and you pay one month on 18 October, that payment covers 22 August to 21 September. That month is already over, so your account is still behind: 21 September to 21 October is unpaid too.

Your sites and services come back as soon as every unpaid period, including the current one, is paid.

"I paid but my sites are still paused"

That means the payment covered an earlier period and at least one more is still owed. Open Billing: it shows

  • what your last payment covered, with the dates;
  • how many periods are still owed, the dates they cover and the amount before tax;
  • a Pay everything owed button that creates one invoice for all of them.

We also e-mail you after a payment that did not cover everything, in your own language, with the same dates and a link to pay the rest.

Before you pay

Every payment screen says what that payment covers and whether it is enough: "This payment covers 22 August to 21 September. After it, 1 billing period is still unpaid, so your services stay paused until that is paid too" — or "This payment brings your services back."

Paying everything at once

Billing → Pay everything owed creates one invoice for every unpaid period and charges nothing until you pay it. You can pay it by card, PayPal, crypto or from your account balance. When it is paid your services come back straight away, and the separate renewal invoice it replaced is cancelled so you are never charged twice for the same month.

You can also pay the renewals one at a time from Billing → Waiting for payment; each one covers one period, and the next appears as soon as the previous one is paid.

Subscriptions paid through PayPal's own schedule

If PayPal charges your subscription automatically, PayPal collects each period on its own schedule. Billing still shows what is owed and when your services come back.
