Where to start
Open Migrations in the menu and press Migrate a site here — that creates the site and starts the move in one go. For a site you have already created, open it and go to Restore & import → Migrate from another host.
Type your old host's server address and press Check my current host. We work out what it is running and fill the form in, so you are only asked for the login that will actually work.
What you need
The FTP username, password and server address. FTPS (FTP with encryption) is used when the host offers it.
What moves, and what cannot
An FTP login sees files only. It cannot see databases or mailboxes, so we tell you before you start exactly what it will not reach. For a WordPress site that means the database has to come another way:
- add SSH if your host offers it (choose SSH or SFTP instead), or
- build a package with the free Zinn® Migrate plugin and use *An archive of an existing
site*, or
- ask us to do it for you — free.
It is free, and there is no limit
Every migration is free, on every plan, for as many sites as you have. Doing it yourself is the fastest way. If you would rather we did it, open the site, go to Restore & import, and use Or have us do it for you — free: an engineer starts within 72 hours, and that is free too. See Asking us to migrate a site for you.
