How to add an extra database to a website

Add one more MySQL database to a website for $1 a month, on plans with a fixed number of databases. Backed up before it is ever deleted.

Every website on our servers comes with its own MySQL database. Some plans include a fixed number of databases per website. When you need more than your plan includes, you can add an extra database to that website for $1 a month (US dollars; the checkout shows the price in your currency, plus any tax).

Which plans can add one

  • Plans with a fixed number of databases (for example PBN hosting, and the plans that list
  • "2 databases" or "4 databases") can add extra databases, up to 10 extra per website.

  • Plans with unlimited databases (WordPress hosting and the plans that say "Unlimited
  • databases") never need one: create as many as you like. On those plans the limit is the total database size of the website, shown on the plan.

How to add one

  1. Open Sites, choose the website, then open Databases.
  2. If every included database is in use, press Buy an extra database. You pay for it in the
  3. same window and the slot is ready straight away.

  4. Type a short name (lowercase letters and numbers, up to 16) and press Create database.
  5. Copy the password we show you and keep it somewhere safe. We show it once and do not
  6. store it.

The database name and its username start with your website's own database name, so you can tell them apart in phpMyAdmin.

Database size

Every extra database counts towards the website's database size limit, together with the website's own database. The usage meter on the website adds them up.

Deleting a database

Press Delete beside the database. We back it up first and keep the backup for 30 days, then remove the database. If the backup cannot be made, nothing is deleted. Ask support within 30 days if you need it back.

Deleting a database does not stop what you pay for its slot.

Stopping an extra database

On the same Databases page, each extra database you pay for is listed with its renewal date. Press Stop renewing beside it. It keeps working until the end of the month you paid for, and we do not charge for it again. Stopping one never deletes a database: if you then have more databases than your plan allows, they all keep working, but you cannot create a new one until you are back under the limit. Stopping an extra database needs the permission to manage payments on your account.

If a payment is missed

An unpaid extra database is not deleted. You cannot create a new database in its slot until the payment is made, and everything already there keeps working.
