Zinn® SEO how-to: Protect your RSS feed from copying and Stop comment spam without a captcha

Step by step in Zinn® SEO: Add a credit line that links back to you to every feed item, and hold new posts back from the feed for a while.

Protect your RSS feed from copying

Add a credit line that links back to you to every feed item, and hold new posts back from the feed for a while.

  1. Open the feed settings — Go to SEO, Clean-up, RSS feeds.
  2. Add a credit line — Under Credit line, fill After each item, for example %post_link% was first published on %site_link%. A site that copies your feed then links back to you.
  3. Hold new posts back — Set Hold new posts back from the feed (minutes) so search engines find a new post on your site before anyone can copy it.

Stop comment spam without a captcha

Two hidden fields catch spam bots. Real visitors see nothing, type nothing and load no extra script.

  1. Open Comment spam — Go to SEO, Clean-up, Comment spam. Caught so far shows how many bot comments were stopped, and why.
  2. Choose what happens to a caught comment — Choose Goes to the spam folder (you can still rescue it) or Refused outright, then Save changes.
  3. Set how fast a person can write — Fewest seconds a person needs to write a comment: anything sent faster is treated as a bot. Three seconds suits most sites.
