Encrypted before it leaves us
Each archive is encrypted with AES-256 and signed with HMAC-SHA256 before a byte reaches your storage, so your storage provider only ever holds ciphertext.

We back your sites up already. This sends an encrypted copy of each backup to your own S3-compatible bucket or SFTP server, so you hold one copy that does not depend on us, and you can restore from it in a click.

What it is
Every site we host is backed up to our own storage, off the server it runs on. That protects you from a server failing. It does not give you a copy you control.
With this add-on, each backup of the site is also written to storage you own: an Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, Wasabi or any other S3-compatible bucket, or an SFTP server such as a NAS in your office. The copy stays there for as long as you choose, whatever happens to your account with us.

Yours to open without us
The encryption key is in your dashboard. With it, a standard openssl command turns any copy back into the original archive of files and database.
Tested before it is trusted
When you add storage we write a test file, read it back and delete it. If your credentials cannot do all three, we say so before anything is saved.
Restore in a click
Pick a copy on the site's Backups tab. We check it has not been altered, then put the site back from it.
Your retention
Keep copies for 7, 30, 90, 180 or 365 days. Older copies are removed from your storage for you, never one that a newer copy still needs.
Paused, not lost
If an invoice goes unpaid we stop sending new copies, and pick up again as soon as it is settled. Copies already in your storage stay there.

Choose the storage and how long to keep copies. The newest backup is copied straight away.
Every backup follows
Each new backup reaches your storage within about ten minutes of finishing.
What it costs
A monthly charge per site. The storage is yours, so you pay your provider for it directly.
Offsite backups to your own storage
$2.00/month
Your plan's own backups continue unchanged. Add-ons are bought per site from your dashboard and appear on your normal invoice — no separate account, no second bill and no minimum term. Prices exclude tax, which is worked out from your billing country at checkout.
Questions
Which storage can I use?
Any S3-compatible bucket — Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, DigitalOcean Spaces, MinIO and others — or an SFTP server reachable from the internet.
Can my storage provider read my site?
No. The copy is encrypted before it leaves us, and the key is not stored with it.
Can I restore without Zinn Digital®?
Yes. Show the key in your dashboard, take the IV from the .json file beside the archive, and openssl gives you back the original archive.
Does this replace the backups on my plan?
No. Your plan's backups carry on exactly as before. This adds a second copy in a place you control.
What happens if I stop the add-on?
We stop sending new copies. Everything already in your storage stays there and remains yours.
