Yes — you can choose your own mailbox password, and change it whenever you like.
In the dashboard (the account owner, or anyone who manages email)
- Open Email and find the mailbox.
- Press Set password.
- Type the password you want twice and press Save this password — or press **Create one
for me instead** and we make a strong one, shown once, for you to copy.
A password you type is never shown back to you, and we do not keep a copy anyone can read. When you create a mailbox you can choose its password in the same way, or leave the field empty.
In webmail (the person who uses the mailbox)
- Sign in to webmail with the mailbox address and its current password.
- Open Settings, then Password.
- Type the current password, then the new one twice, and save.
The rules
- At least 12 characters. A few unrelated words make a long password that is easy to
remember.
- It must not contain the mailbox address or the domain name.
- It must not be a password that has appeared in a known data breach — attackers try those
first. We check this using only a short fragment of a one-way fingerprint of it, so the password itself never leaves our systems.
Forgotten the password
Whoever manages email on the account sets a new one with Set password on the Email page. We never send a password by e-mail, and our staff cannot look one up.
After a change
Every phone and mail app that was using the old password asks for the new one the next time it checks for mail. Type the new password there and it carries on as before.
Too many attempts
To protect the mailbox, a password can be changed up to 10 times an hour from the dashboard, and webmail allows 5 attempts every 15 minutes. Wait and try again.
