Holding a domain with us does not force its DNS to live with us, and hosting DNS with us does not require us to hold the registration. The two are separate seams by design.
Registrar lock is on by default, so nobody initiates a transfer of your domain without you unlocking it first. WHOIS privacy is offered wherever the registry supports it and defaults to on at checkout, keeping your registrant details out of public WHOIS. Both are toggles you own, not tickets you raise.
Your EPP authorisation code is always retrievable. Requesting it unlocks the domain and reveals the code, and the request is recorded in the audit log as the privileged action it is. There is no retention flow, no confirmation maze and no fee-shaped obstacle between you and the code — if you want to move a domain to another registrar, the platform helps you do it.
Registrant, admin, tech and billing contacts are held as proper ICANN contact profiles you can edit, with a clear warning before any registrant change that would trigger a 60-day transfer lock. Authorisation codes are never stored as ordinary database columns — they live in Vault and are read only by the workflow that needs them.
Expiry is where domains are quietly lost. Every window is read from the per-TLD catalogue rather than hardcoded, because .com and .co.uk do not behave the same way.
Toggle auto-renew individually or in bulk across your portfolio. The renewal sweep runs daily against the authoritative expiry date, so a repeated run on an already-extended domain does nothing rather than renewing it twice.
Expiry notices go out ahead of the date and are localised into all 58 languages alongside every other notification — never English-only, never a single last-minute email.
Past expiry a domain enters the registry's auto-renew grace window, where it is still recoverable at the normal renewal price. The dashboard shows exactly which window a domain is in rather than a vague warning colour.
After grace comes redemption, where recovery requires a paid restore through the registry. It is a separate, separately priced operation, shown as such — no surprise line item.
Every state change — expiring, renewed, restored, deleted, transferred out — emits a durable event, so notifications, billing and the dashboard all see the same truth at the same time.
Domain pricing is genuinely four different prices, and pretending otherwise is how customers get caught out at renewal.
No registrar's SDK appears anywhere in our business logic. Every registrar sits behind an adapter interface and is selected by capability rather than by name, which means the platform can add a registrar, swap one out, or route a TLD to a different one without touching the checkout, the DNS editor or your saved settings. If you already have a registrar account of your own, its credentials resolve from Vault per organisation and the domain is registered under your account instead of ours.
Registration, transfer, renewal and restore all run as durable Temporal workflows rather than long web requests. Each step is an idempotent activity carrying an idempotency key, and failures compensate backwards — a registration that fails after the nameservers were set undoes the nameservers rather than leaving a half-built domain behind. Payment is captured on the order before fulfilment starts, so a failure at the registrar is a clean refund rather than an argument.
Mixed baskets fail independently. If you buy hosting and a domain together and the domain registration is rejected — snatched in the race, registry rejection, registrar outage — the hosting line still completes and the domain line is refunded to your wallet on its own. One failed line never holds the rest of your order hostage.

Domain search, registration, transfers, DNS records and nameservers are all published endpoints in our OpenAPI specification, which means they are equally available from the dashboard, the generated SDKs, the CLI and our MCP server — so an AI tool can manage your DNS with exactly the permissions you granted it.
Yes, and the platform actively helps you. Requesting transfer-out unlocks the domain and reveals your EPP authorisation code from the Security panel, we approve the gaining registrar's request, and the domain leaves. The code is always retrievable — there is no retention gauntlet and no dark pattern between you and your own domain.
No. A domain-only account is a first-class customer here, with its own dashboard, its own renewals and no hosting subscription attached. If you add hosting later, the domain you already own simply connects to the new site — you never re-purchase it.
Availability is re-verified server-side at checkout before any charge is attempted. If the domain has gone, the checkout stops with alternatives rather than proceeding, and no money moves. That check is deliberately placed before payment rather than after it.
Yes — that is the connect route. You prove control with a TXT record, a nameserver delegation or an HTTP file, we import your resolvable records, and your site works exactly as it would on a domain we hold. Registration stays with your current registrar and we never touch it. You can transfer it in later if you decide to consolidate.
WHOIS privacy is offered wherever the registry supports it and is switched on by default at checkout. Some registries — Nominet's .co.uk among them — do not offer a privacy service at all, and where that is the case we say so on the TLD rather than selling you something the registry does not provide.
The domain moves into the registry's auto-renew grace window, where it is still recoverable at the normal renewal price. After that it enters redemption, where recovery requires a paid restore through the registry at a higher, separately quoted fee, and finally pending-delete before it returns to the registry. Every window length comes from that specific TLD's own policy, and the dashboard tells you which window a domain is in — with advance notices sent in your language before any of it starts.
Because they are genuinely different prices at the registry level, and first-year registrations are often discounted where renewals are not. We show the renewal rate next to the first-term price rather than burying it, and a first-term promotion never carries over to renewal in either direction.
